Folder Access Error on activating Voice Recognition - Workaround found.

When I set the tick for "Voice Recognition" and press the "OK" button, Launchbox stops for a second or two and then tells me it was unable to access the launchbox folder C:\Program Data\Microsoft\Windows\Startmenu\Programme and that I should put my launchbox in a folder with full rights.

But my Installation is a portable one, on external disk drive G:\ and should have no connection to the aforementioned folder Launchbox can't access. A little stumped here, already tried Administrator mode to no avail.

Win10 64 bit, Launchbox 6.9-9

Edit: Launchbox was installed to the machine before, maybe remnants of that installation are to blame?

Edit: Maybe it's because the German path should be C:\Program Data\Microsoft\Windows\Startmenü\Programme, with an Umlaut?

Hmm, it's trying to read your Start menu programs to detect what they are so it can prepare for you to launch them. That is pretty odd; I'll look into it. :)

@Frederik @slashguns04 Does the folder in the error message differ from your actual path too (in my case: StartMenu instead of StartMenü)

Markus: That's just how WIndows is presenting the folder names to you. It has nothing to do with where the programs are installed. Hard to explain but I hope you somewhat understand what I mean. =)

OK, I installed 6.9 beta 12, thought "maybe Jason already did some magic"... switch on voice recognition, click ok... No error. Then I realize I have not connected my microphone. I connect it, no reaction from LB so I restart LB. It doesn't even boot up but gives me the usual access error. Had to switch to an older Launchbox.xml to get back into my installation, as both LB and BB would crash on startup.

OK, I really got annoyed by voice rec not working.

Step 1: I changed the owner of my User/ProgramData/Windows/StartMenu Programs to my Account instead of "System". That made the annoying "Can't access folder" error go away. I fire up launchbox, activate voice rec & debug mode, restart... nothing, no debug audio window, no signal. Rechecked Cortana & Windows voice rec, both run fine.

Step 2: I switched my launchbox copy from English (i prefer it because it's easier in forums) to German, restart: Audio meter there, Launchbox even answers... in broken German accent... doesn't understand shit.

Step 3. I switched my windows to English, downloaded the speech pack, did the training. Now voice rec works like a charm.

After seeing Swedish and Italian here, you should definitely look into differences in speech recognition packs... hope I could help!

Hi Markus, I believe these issues have been resolved in the latest betas, though currently voice recognition is still restricted to English. However, I believe if you have the english language and speech packs installed in Windows, it should now still work even if you have German selected. Let me know if not.
