Big Box crashes

Issue #1596 resolved
George Rallis created an issue

I moved my videos and images to another hard drive, and everything worked as planned, until I realize after Bog Box begins to play roughly 5 or 6 videos, it crashes.

This only started happening to me today, after I moved my video and image files to another hard drive. It happened on the current release, as well as I tried the beta - same thing.

LaunchBox version: 6.9-beta-18 Windows version: Windows 10 Home x64 Frequency: Occurs everytime within minutes, only when browsing my Windows library, which plays trailers in the background. Steps to reproduce: Simply start Big Box, go to a platform which has videos and images on another hard drive, have videos autoplay on highlight, and navigate. Happens within minutes.

No actual LaunchBox error seems to be caught. It's a Windows error stating it will see if it can identify the problem and let me know. it does not notify me of a solution.

Thanks so much.

Hi George, that is pretty odd. If it's only happening on a different hard drive, I would think that there might be disk errors on that drive or possibly some minor filesystem corruption. That's just a guess, but it's worth investigating since it's only happening on that drive.

Are you using the VLC video playback engine or the Windows Media Player one?

I'll look into it tonight if I have time by scanning the drive, and installing launch/big box on the same drive. I'll report my findings back.

    Thanks

P.S. - I use VLC as my video player, but it doesnt seem to work when I play fullscreen.

Sure, thanks George. Also try upgrading to the latest beta; I've fixed a lot of stuff with VLC so that might resolve the problem as well.

Ok Jason. Upgraded to the latest beta, as well as have installed a second copy on to the same drive. I scanned the drive for errors and it came up clean. I'm still getting the crashing issue, even though everything is on the same drive. Is there an error log I can upload?

Unfortunately not really; we need to add some better logging mechanisms. Try switching to the Windows Media Player video playback engine to see if the crash is related to VLC or not.

Jason, I reinstalled LaunchBox, but did not have my videos in a different directory, and it has no crashed since. Used it for approx. 30 minutes tonight, and no crash. Crashes occurred within minutes every time.
