Improve custom filters in Big Box

Issue #1972 new
Former user created an issue

Add functionality to 'custom filters' so they behave more like the platform views. The reason for this is that we could use the custom filters in order to specify how we want to organise our collection. For example, adding the platforms as simple filters, but also adding collections, such as 'The Legend of Zelda', 'Tetris', 'Pokémon' etc as series filters and Lightgun games as a genre filter. If implemented, it could be used to mimic the HyperSpin collections feature.

What could be added to improve to attractiveness of custom filters: - add media for custom filters (Images and Videos) - add the option for using random game videos for missing filter videos (or group it with the platform one) - add additional themes, or use the platform themes

PS I attached an example of how it could look like in BigBox.

A proposition in case you don't want to use filters for this is adding an option to add a playlists: * there are 2 kinds of playlists: normal and smart playlists (based on iTunes playlists) * the normal option allows users to create a manual list of games (games can be added via right-click option or something similar) * the smart playlist allows users to create a specific filter and games will automatically be added if the conditions are met

The ideas for media content would still be the same (completely the same as platforms)

PS Increased the priority as I think I would be quite a popular feature and there isn't an easy way to do this. The only way is to add a new platform, add each rom manually via path, make a copy of each media file for the fake platform.

Yup. Exactly. I would like this feature, and as well I'd like it to include a controller and keyboard shortcut to transition into a platform view that shows your filters exactly as a normal platform view would. Then press it again to jump back out to the regular platform view.
