I Can't Get MAME to Work

Hey, I'm kind of new to the whole emulation thing. i watched a video posted by launchbox about how to get MAME to work, i followed the videos instructions and i excitedly clicked on street fighter 2 super turbo MAME said initializing, then closed instantly. can somebody walk me through on how to get it to work?
