Image and video data named same as roms, or rename all option
Maintain all the image data mandatory with the same name that rom have. Is more easy to avoid duplicates and garbage. The images or videos downloaded from thegamesdatabase and emumovies or other added manually have nasty names with numbers of other things. emumovies not. I started to download videos with the emumovies service program and after with the emumovies integrated service on launchbox. Now i have duplicated videos because emumovies choose rom name and launchbox chooses the name of database. If any change are made to the database, the video redownloades resulting on a bunch of duplicates.

repo owner The names should be the same between EmuMovies and TGDB. How are you seeing them differently? One complication is that if there is more than one fanart image (for example) for any one game, they can't all be named the same, so you have to do something to differentiate them (like add numbers).
-
repo owner I like the thought of having an option to rename all images, and also an option to choose between ROM file name and game name as well. Those are great ideas.
-
Account Deleted Would love to have the option to have all media associated with a rom to have exactly the same name as the rom. This would make media auditing (Checking to see what is missing) extremely easy. For fanart images, a simple _001 etc at the end would also make them different enough and be easily found by an auditing tool
Great idea!

reporter The more than one image is one point but at least first screenshot, the covers, the videos and all unitary data must have the same name of rom and enable a method to check and clean broken (no match data) data. Because when any change to the external database is made, all the data is redownloaded with diferent names. The rom name must be mandatary because is more stable than the databases that could change a lot and more if more scrappers are added.
-
reporter On the other hand a option like consolidate files could be used to rename roms and data files with the database name. These could be the options: 1: name files with rom name or 2: name files with database data.
-
Use emumovies naming convention, it is useful if you use emumovies download service utility (premium).
-
reporter Emumovies and hyperspin exclude a lot of games it their hyperlist based names, and all the know databases gamefaqs mobygames etc don't use their name convention that is limited in naming with some mispell errors and things like move articles like THE to the end etc. If you want a complete romset not the best choice.
-
Emumovies naming convention is the best, just the ROM name, that makes their program compatible with launchbox, i can use emumovies dsu, compatible with launchbox.
-
Why you even want naming conventions? If the scraper found the correct game just name the artwork exactly like the ROM file you have and you good to go. The strict naming conventions of HyperSpin are exactly what it makes such a pain in the ass to set it up.

reporter - changed title to Image and video data named same as roms, or rename all option

reporter without solving this issue, any change on database info gives us serious bunch of duplicated downloads and lots of crap data and misaligned, killing disk space.
-
Really this falls into the fact no one wants duplicate images as the names really don't matter because you don't ever need to see the image names.
-
Account Deleted Names matter when you use external images. I don't use the Launchbox scrapper because doesn't recognize a lot of games (that's understandable) and I don't like the sources it uses, specially for screenshots. I've spend a lot of time building my media collection (cover, back, tittle, gameplay, pdf, video). I don't want Launchbox to rename my files every time I change some info on the game entry.
-
reporter It's an old and many voted ticket, could we expect something this coming months?

Voted!

My OCD is making me spend crazy amount of time and effort (and disk space) because I insist on having my assets match the ROM name (assuming 1 asset of each type by ROM). Launchbox is smart enough to pick them up, but will rename them if I edit the game. This is driving my insane. I understand why it's doing what it's doing, and I appreciate the complexity of the problem, but if there's only 1 box art for a ROM, and it has the same name as the ROM, then at the very least please do not rename it just for kicks. That would be my
#1enhancement over everything else. Please make it so!! -
reporter Well, i don't want to sound rude or fussy but: 1: Not correcting this issue are giving us lots of duplicating downloads when we update info on the database, any change duplicates downloaded files. 2: This issue makes imposible to manually manage or export collections to other launchbox instalations due to changes made over time on database and new imports. 3: Is high voted and more than 2 years...

Got my vote, having the roms named one thing and all the media named another makes it hard to keep it all organized when you are dealing with media from multiple sources or if you back up your media files after you get them right so you don’t have to redownload them and recheck them later only to potentially find out the metadata has been updated which changed the name it sees your rom as so the media you downloaded doesn’t have the right name anymore.
+1: Please just name the media after the roms.
Just have the first media file have the exact name as the rom itself and if it has multiple of the same type, append a number to every image after the first.
Like, if the rom is named “Chrono Trigger.7z”, have the first image named “Chrono Trigger.png” and the next one “Chronor Trigger-2.png” and so on. Make organizing these things SO much easier.

reporter Glad to see that the proposal is still alive

+1 for me as well, was bit weird with the naming compared with most other frontends and main issue I have with it is when not all of the media is available or missing, you end up with trying to download that bits but the end result is duplicate files and having to run cleanups often
