File name recognition

Issue #3089 new

I'm not sure if this has been suggested, but I attempted to search and didn't find anything.

With the various platforms, users commonly are working from the same base files. People might have NO-INTRO files, a common ScummVM archive, or a Commodore 64 archive with truncated named disk images.

For certain systems, it would be easier to identify common file names and use those for identifying the games instead of just the titles or folder names. This might not help on CD based games which depend on .Cue files, but for Atari or Atari Lynx it would be extremely helpful.

To eliminate most duplicates you'd need, Platform, Filename, and possibly common file size. With those three, it would be easy to guarantee a file listing is the same. Some people might rename the files, but a majority wouldn't. If the .xml is already recording the file name in the <ApplicationPath> variable, would it be easy to harvest filenames with the add to Games DB plug in?
