Feature Request

Issue #3653 new

First, I just want to say how much I love Launchbox/BigBox. It's been a blast working with it since the first day I purchased the lifetime license. It has become my current favorite hobby. It's great coming over here with so much support and an awesome community from Hyperspin. That said, I actually have 2 requests that I would love to see implemented at some point...

  1. A stand alone section in BigBox options just for Primary Screen & Marquee Screen ( This may have been brought up before). Primarily to have the ability to customize the marquee screen. It would be cool to be able to have let's say 3 layers, for example. Bottom layer could be a system/console banner, middle could display the selected game logo, and top layer maybe a controller button layout for that system. Adding support for video playback on the marquee screen would also be nice.

  2. The ability to choose which display to select when adding an application in the "edit game" options. Right now, if I choose to run an app when loading a game, it automatically pops up over or under the game when it launches on the main screen. For example, I have a 3 monitor setup, it would be really cool to to have the game on my primary display, the marquee on another, and launch a game guide or instruction booklet on the 3rd display.

Thank you and keep up the awesome work!

Cory

Both these request are great. I really to want the 2nd request you mentioned. Would be really nice

I wouldn't be too keen on adding "layers" of information to a single screen, but I do like suggestion 2 and the possibility to have different media or manuals displayed on different monitors. I'd be keen for Launchbox to support multiple screens too.

Hi guys, per request #1, that is already possible with a custom theme, though few people have really taken advantage of custom themes on marquees as of yet.

Unfortunately per #2, Windows doesn't provide that option. There's no way for me to tell Windows to "start this app on monitor 2", that I'm aware of, anyways. You can use hacking and scripting like AutoHotkey to move the window and such, but once an emulator uses exclusive fullscreen (as most do), it just doesn't work. So unfortunately that has to be configured by the emulators themselves.

Custom themes would be great if they might be a bit easier to make! :D

Regarding option number 2, the main use of the second screen would be when browsing games - not after starting the emulator; though the latter would be good too of course.

You can already specify what screen to put the marquee and the main Big Box screen on.

Since I've posted this, I've found that there are programs out there that allows you to choose and control which monitor to start specific apps or files on, so that's no problem. It could be cool to launch like a controller layout or a flyer on a 3rd display for that system/game. I've also modified current custom themes and have seen where the marquee xaml file is to modify, so I plan on digging into that soon. Arcade game marques are good as is, but consoles could really use the modification. I'm wanting to display a system specific background, then place the chosen game's logo in the center, and possibly a controller layout for that system... Which could also just be part of the background.
