MAME-like rom parsing for other emulators

I really like the MAME rom parsing feature when importing a full romset. Having the ability to filter out casino games, fruit, majong etc is a really cool feature. I would like to know if it would be possible to extend this feature to retroarch if it is using any of the mame or final burn alpha cores.

Now that retroarch has latency compensation via runahead frames I really would like to migrate over to either mame or final burn alpha retroarch cores to take advantage of those features but the rom import wizard currently isn't smart enough to know that it's still mame or fba even though the emulator technically is retroarch.
