Game Manual Adding Support?

Issue #4385 new
Holy Lightning created an issue

Dear Jason,

My username is Holy Lightning for the Game Database and I love adding new content and moderating content for the Games Database here on LaunchBox. I currently have 113 approved acceptations and 0 rejections. Some of my included titles that I have added are "Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Ultimate Edition", "Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation", and the PS Vita version of "Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana". But who says we have to stop at game screenshots and metadata? Why not add manuals as well since LaunchBox itself seems to support it?

So I understand that there is EmuMovies support but what about having an option to also upload/download a pdf of existing manuals straight from the site or the program itself outside directly from the database like the images? It could be an interesting way to expand and gaze upon one's collection but as a downside it could lead to more work for moderation and possible file scams. But I believe regardless that it would be a neat feature that hopefully can be implemented. Hopefully it can be given some thought?

Thanks for your time Jason. I'll even throw in a manual from one of my favorite games I personally scanned myself from my personal collection as part of this message. Hopefully you like it. Also, you can contact me at sanctusignis2018@gmail.com if you would like to contact me for any reason.

Sincerely,

Holy Lightning

I'd like to see manuals added to scraping and downloaded but this has been discussed before and it's very much a gray area with regards to copyright content and for that reason it is not going to be done for now. If anyone thinks that manuals aren't covered under copyright this is one of the reasons that places like Blockbuster back in the day had photocopied manuals, Nintendo in their effort to stop rentals sued them over manuals and won.

Yeah I thought about copyright issues shortly after I posted this. Hopefully EmoMovies doesn't get into trouble with it. Which like you said this area is one of those "gray ones" so to speak. Thank you for the reply however. Moreover, at least we can still upload box art and metadata and etc. So look forward to seeing more moderation and additions from me now and in the future because I love supporting you guys!
