Have you ever thought about adding support for books and movies?

I LOVE Launchbox. Is there any hope for a future addition of a "books" and/or a "movies" section? I've looked online and there is basically no software available that has the same features of Launchbox for managing a books or movies collection (that is, having a good UI and being DRM free, thus easy to backup and store for years to come without fear of losing everything as long as you can backup the program folder).

I don't know how difficult it would be to implement for you, but personally I'd gladly pay again for such features. It's just a matter of adding a few new filters, two new sections (with new offline xmls), and support for IMDBs APIs (for movies) and some service that allows ISBN/Title search (for books).

At that point Launchbox would become the perfect collector's database and you could add a couple of fancy features, like filtering based on series (so that one could see my Lord of the Rings books, games and movies when he searches for LOTR) or having something similar to Bigbox for books and movies too (for example a virtual big wooden shelf for all my books and DVDs).

I wouldn't mind having it just there and not mantained as well as the games part, just being able to search for ISBNs and IMDB entries would be awesome enough.

Any hope of seeing this in the future?

Books and movies are technically already supported, it just doesn't have a scraper for them built in. People are free to make a plugin or find someone to make one for them to scrape movies and books. Native support for scraping this media may eventually come but it will be a long term thing if it ever comes at all.

    Thanks for the response.

What do you mean with "technically supported"? Because from what I understand the user can't change the basic filters and categories inside Launchbox..things like "platform" or "developer" don't really make sense for books, and as far as I understand there's no way to create a new section where those terms are changed into "physical copy" or "author". If this is the case, just point me in the right direction I could look into making the plug-in myself!

What I mean is, you can import books and movies and have LB load them. It's the metadata and media scraping that isn't there native to LB.

Platform = Library Systems can be Non-Fiction, Cookbooks, Pen & Paper, Magazines, Fiction, Comics, Reference, etc etc.

Playlists can work for series and you can even add books or movies to the same playlists as games. For example Playlist=Halo Collection, could include games, comics, movies, etc etc.

Just a suggestion but this is how I do it. I also have a platform Named Videos, the systems are Anime, Television, Cartoons, Motion Comics, Documentaries, Movies, Streaming (just web links really)

Sumarta PDF works great as you can launch it in full screen and script it to close with escape key. Same for VLC.

Launchbox is great and very very powerful if you just play around with it and get a bit creative. Best feature? Random Game, works great especially for books and movies.

What do you use for metadata scraping though? I have like 2000 physical books in my collection, I can't enter all of the ISBNs and dates and images myself, it would be a massive work and not worth it for private use...
