Mame Importer Idea

Would it be possible to be able to select the importer for popular mame versions? For example when importing full mame sets having the ability to select a different mame version like 0.78? The reason for this is the size of mame, in general at almost 600gb having the option to import a full set of 0.375b at less than 3gb or 0.78 at 30gb would be great and by using the versions of mame supported by retroarch would make it easier to use the core.
