Games not launching

Issue #475 resolved
Former user created an issue

Hello,

I have tried two different games. One is a MAME game (Golden Tee 2K) and the other is Excitebike (NES). I successfully load the games and am using Retroarch as the emulator. I am also sure to import the game and the file path is pointing directly to the game in each instance. However, when I click on the desired game, nothing happens. No error message, nothing. I have triple checked my work and still can't see where i am going wrong. When I attempt to load the game just using retroarch, it works perfectly. That tells me it's something I am doing wrong in the Launchbox area. Thoughts?

So the forums are a better location to ask questions like this, however, the error most likely lies in the Associated Platforms list. Open your Emulators window, and double click RetroArch. Associated Platforms at the top. Make sure the platform name in LaunchBox in the left pane, matches the platform name here. So if it is Arcade on the left, the platform name needs to be Arcade. If it's MAME they need to be MAME. Then make sure you are loading the proper core in the command line parameters column.

Thanks Brad, sorry for posting in the wrong spot. I'll use the forum after this issue is solved. So I got the Nintendo piece working by not using Retroarch and simply using Nestopia which is what is recommended by Launchbox. However, I can't get MAME working. I have two games loaded (Golden Tee and Double Dragon). I have the emulator pointed at the MAME application file and the games pointing at the ROM file. When I click the game, it briefly appears and then quickly disappears. When I look at the settings, the associated platform is "Arcade" but there is nothing in the "Default Command Line Parameters" box. However, the path is correct in terms of where I have the MAME application. Strange because the Nintendo one works fine and it also doesn't have anything in the "Default Command Line Parameters" box. The associated platform in that one is Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) but has nothing in the "Default Command Line Parameters" box. Thoughts? Thank you so much for helping me. And for what it's worth, I am saving all of this on an external drive so it can be moved to another PC I'll be using in the cabinet.

Update - I chose to simply add everything to the PC I'll use in the cabinet as opposed to using the external drive (path issues as you can image). I still encounter the same error on that PC. I must be missing a file or something.

Update - I've got it all working. I decided to go away from Retroarch and fetch my own emulators. Got MAME working by including whatever ROM's I want in both the ROM folder in MAME and in my games folder for where Launchbox points to. Thanks for the initial suggestions, definitely helped.

I greatly prefer RetroArch for everything except a few systems. MAME, DS and PSP are some that I prefer their standalones for. The issue you're talking about is a BIOS issue most likely. So chances are the MAME BIOS weren't in your system folder. However, I do agree to go with regular MAME for this one.

Don't worry about the location right now, I just like telling people about the forums because then they have a chance of a way better response from our community. It is really only Jason and myself here.
