Grouping games

Issue #488 resolved

I'd love a function that groups games together under one entry. Right now I have for example 8 database entries for different versions of Another World, and more will come eventually and when they're all in the same list it tends to clutter up the screen unnecessarily. I would like to have the option to group versions of the same game together so that when they appear in the same filtered (or unfiltered) list they all group themselves under the same entry automatically. And then upon clicking on the game it would reveal the full list in a pop up window. I can think of several different ways how the rules for grouping could be setup, but I've already added a custom field called "ID" that would handle that quite effortlessly. So in my case, if a function was setup to look for matching ID codes and if found would group those games together, then that would be ideal... Just an idea though, your frontend is already awesome anyway, I've already sent you my $50 for the premium license. So happy to have found an easy to use frontend like this that's still in active development.

Just a thought, this would also be very useful for games with multiple discs, like for example PS1 Square RPGs.

Yeah, a must! Very useful to group duplicates or regional versions. WIth this, we can see very nicely the real list of available games without anoying to audit one by one because the crazy policy to change names on usa o europe releases, and the users that want to have duplicates can choose what version to run, in some cases like the jetsons on snes or dr jekyll for nes the USA and Jap version are very diferent, many changes on graphics and gameplay.

100% agreed. Just like how multi-disc games are handles now. Maybe just a toggle to use this or not.

I would Love It if LB Could take all versions Of a game and Groupe them Into one game/entry. you could then pick what the default version you want to play by normal/quick selection or see all versions and pick which one you like

Yeah because is crazy audit a huge rom collection to find regional duplicates, the nonsense of changing titles to releases for westerners. And as we talk there's games with huge diferences between regions. I remember Ace Combat 3 (no story mode and anime on usa) of ps1 and others like the final fight and ninja warriors censured brawlers (no girls)

probably my biggest request for Launchbox. To be able to group not only different revision together, but also the same game from different regions together. Just let the users choose their default region for all games (or custom!) and make those configurations shareable with the community.

I'd also want to be able to group up games across different systems, so that the arcade version of Bubble Bobble and the NES version Bubble Bobble etc. gets grouped together when appropriate, but not the Game Boy version of Bubble Bobble since that game is different enough in my opinion to be regarded as a different game (so no grouping based on titles). Also, if I use the filters to only show NES games, or only games released in 1988 or whatever, the Arcade version in this case would not show up.

I've tried the option to merge roms into one entry in the last version of launchbox, 7.7 but ir doesn't work with roms that have diferent name in regional versions. I've tried to import The jetsons: invasion of the planet pirates and Youkai buster: ruka no daibouken that are the same game but with diferences between us version (jetsons) and japaneses (youkai) and don't work. Youkai buster are already added as alternate name (japan) on jetsons entry.

Not implemented the way I intended it with the original request though. You can only permanently merge them, they however don't split them when circumstance make sense. If I merge all versions of Battletoads they don't get unmerged if I'm just looking at Mega Drive games for example. In fact, Battletoads for Mega Drive doesn't appear at all if I chose the NES version as the primary display version. The grouping only works for different versions of the same game for the same hardware... Or at the very least this was the case last time I tried it.
