Show emulator association per game in "List View"

Issue #4903 new
Cory Benthall created an issue

I think adding a column in the List View of LaunchBox showing the emulators used within a system for each game would be very helpful. Obvious systems, like Sega Dreamcast Nintendo 64 for instance, that different games work best with different emulators would help a lot with sorting out emulator associations.

Are you talking Launchbox or BigBox? In Launchbox you can do this by creating a custom field. Right click a game and edit, then go to the custom fields tab. Call it whatever you want…”Emulator”. Then in the value field enter the emulator name. Once done you can now bulk edit games together and choose the custom field then add the emulator name. To get it to show go to >Tools>Options and in Game Details section tick the check box for “custom fields”. It will now show in the Game Details pane. In BigBox it can show if the theme developer uses a plug-in that will pull the custom field data, but that would be up to the theme creator.

Thanks for the response… sorry, it’s meant for LaunchBox primarily for keeping track of what games use what emulator. And instead of saying in the details view, I meant “List View” to see a full page worth of games at a glance. I’m wanting to be able to sort games based on the emulator and the column would pull info from what emulator a particular game is associated with. From what I can tell, using the method you mentioned is nice for certain use cases, but for this it would be a very tedious process… and after testing, custom fields aren’t showing up in List View. I would have to click each individual game to see that info. This would be very helpful in sorting through the best emulator/version per game for a good handful of systems and help speed up the process. I guess I should probably revise my wording, I was at work when I posted lol.

OK. Yeah definitely different than what I was originally seeing you say. I could see that being helpful. Probably a pretty niche use so it may be something that to get implemented would need more people to request.

I tested what I mentioned and it works. Just need to make sure you have custom filed box checked in the game details setting. I added a custom field called emulator.

Yes, that worked for me as well, just in the details window. But I’m wanting this to also show in the Games List View so I can see a page’s worth of emulator values… but the list only showed the default fields.
