cannot add rom when another version already exists

Issue #4958 new
Kallin Nagelberg created an issue

I recently tried adding a rom, ‘Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon’ for nintendo DS using both the ‘import’ and ‘scan for added rom' features, and neither one was able to detect the new rom. I believe this is because I already had the Japanese version present, rom name ‘Fire Emblem - Shin Ankoku Ryuu to Hikari no Ken (Japan)’. The Japanese version had been imported with the same name, ‘Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon’, and somehow this was preventing launchbox from importing the new version. I tried multiple times, but only after I deleted the existing version did it work. At that point, launchbox detected the 2 versions and imported them merged together.

Issues like these are better served on the forum where we troubleshoot daily. Bitbucket is typically used for feature requests and bugs.

You can add roms when a similar or same version exists just by checking the “force importing duplicate games” on the second to last screen of the import wizard.

This is definitely a bug IMO, which is why I listed it here and not on the forums.

I’m not importing a duplicate; I’m adding another version; Ie adding a Japanese ROM when I already have the US version. I don’t have to click ‘force import duplicate games’ when doing a full import, and will import both. If one already exists however, and you try the scan and add feature, it will not find the alternate region.

Just tested the two games and had no issues importing. I already had the US version so I dropped the Japan version in my DS roms folder, scanned and it found and added the Japan version. What region priorities do you have set in your Launchbox settings? Do you have both regions checked? Also if you right click the platform and check the folders tab is it pointing to your actual DS roms folder?
