Wii controllers on Dolphin via Steam Link not possible

Issue #5110 new

For the sake of this bug/feature request, my setup is as follows:

  • Windows 10 gaming PC with the latest stable version of Launchbox.
  • Dolphin loaded into Launchbox, Wii games imported.
  • Steam Link (hardware version) accessing Launchbox through Big Box, which is added to Steam as a non-steam game.
  • Xbox One controller used to navigate Big Box via Steam Link.
  • Mayflash Dolphin Bar physically connected to Steam Link, virtually connected to PC through VirtualHere app.
  • Real Wii controller connected to Dolphin Bar.

The problem I face is that I cannot use real Wiimotes through Big Box on the Steam Link. I can use it at my PC or even through Steam, but not through Big Box on the Link. For more clarity:

  • I CAN play Wii games with a real Wiimote through Big Box on my PC.
  • I CAN play Wii games with a real Wiimote through the Steam Link by using Dolphin as a non-Steam game.
  • I CANNOT combine the two and use a real Wiimote through Big Box on my Steam Link.

As far as I can tell, the problem is that Big Box prevents the Wiimote from transmitting to Dolphin through the Steam Link. This could most likely be solved by allowing Wiimotes to navigate Big Box, but I don’t really care about that. If I need to navigate Big Box with my Xbox controller and only pick up the Wiimote once a game is launched, I’m fine with that. But as of now, Big Box won’t let me do even that. In the meantime, I am using the Dolphin-as-a-non-Steam-game method on my Steam Link which is clunky and not as clean and organized as my beautiful Launchbox library. However, at least it works.

Thanks!
