Pause Menu - Feature Request (View Controller Bindings)

Issue #5168 new
SomeGeezer created an issue

Hello, I was hoping to propose that we could get a extra feature added into the Pause Menu!

So as you know a lot of people have many systems within their LaunchBox collection but the problem is no one can every really remember what they set each of the controller bindings too. I want to suggest that we could get the following “View Controller Bindings” add to the things you could do within the Pause Menu. I was think you could click it and it would simply display an image a bit like “View Manual” display a .pdf.

I was think you could place a folder inside /Launchbox/Images/Controller Bindings/ with the filename of the platform you want the image for. i.e. /Launchbox/Images/Controller Bindings/Nintendo Gameboy Advance.png. so Big Box knows what image to display per platform!

I think this would be a massive help to everyone in the community and bring Launchbox to the ultimate Front-end of the world.

Thanks again Jason for making Launchbox!

Regards,

I wonder if there could be room to expand this feature request?

Instead of people making loads and loads of images for each game would it be possible to have:

    1. A controller image being loaded based on what controller you are using for the platform.
    2. Add functionality to the database to include controller information. This could be added as meta data by users for each game. Which button jumps, shoots etc.
    3. Have either a way for the user to add their key-bindings they use on their emulators inside Launchbox, or for it to read the emulators settings which a lot of the time should be easily read?
    4. By using the information from point 2 and 3 overlay the correct button layout and functions (jump, shoot etc.) on top of the correct controller image (Xbox pad, Playstation pad etc.).
    5. Bonus would be that it also shows what the button is called on the real hardware (so if you play PS1 games with an Xbox controller, it might say on the X button “(Square) Jump”. (If the (Square) could be represented with an icon even better, see attached example image).

Not sure how feasible this is, just trying to think if there is a smart way to do this than to make tons of images that might not suit the set up for the user. Also by doing it this way these could also be themed to fit the user, so if they want photo real looking controllers, or schematic looking ones.

I feel there is a way to do this and while I would not be able to do any of the hard coding work, I would gladly assist with any icon creation or controller images that would need making.
