Feature request for saving space - Download and Importing Media

Issue #5222 new

I only want to pick one type of box art - I usually get the 3D Box for all my games. So that's the only one I select when importing games. To save space and because I won’t be switching themes in BigBox. However, when there is no 3D box art, I like to go ahead and tell the software to download the 2D version (as alternative), so those titles that don't have the 3D ones, can also display at least something.

1) The software could address this use case as I’m sure many others want to save space too. What matters is the game, not a ton load of images. A 1 is enough button. Choose your box art: 3D or flat, then go from there.

An option to order or group titles that don't have cover photo. So that we can easily select them to initiate the task to download those missing images, only for the titles that we select. Short term solution.

Or the download process could be smart with the “1 image is enough button“ - that would be the long term solution, and have an option to select to only download box arts for titles that have none, and not for all of them (including the ones that alreadyhave 3D boxes).

The point of all this is to save space.

2)

A delete button in the Edit a game metadata screen and a smaller button in the corner of the image to delete the image and enabled "del" in the keyboard for deletion of an image in that screen.

Also, display the size of the image in pixels and KB.

3)

Launchbox has trouble recognizing most games that have the “.nkit.iso” extension. I end up having to rename those titles to just “.iso” so the launchbox can pick them up (before I startthe import process).

4)

At the end of import, it’s not clear if the software is working or frozen. In my computer, it takes quite some time to finalize the process and so I have learned with time that it’s not frozen but just hanging. A simple animated working gif would help.

5)

The message that pops up at the end of an import when there’s issues with some titles is missleading.I have learned to say “yes” please import those game anyways, becaue otherwise Launchbox won’t import any of the games in the list. Say you have 1,000 games and only 3 of those Launchbox had an issue. If you respond to “no” to that very last questions, you just wasted hours and hours of import process because launchbox will not import anything. I mean, the quesiton should be: Do you want to import those games witth missing data anyways? And if you respon with no, it will import everything except those ones with issues. Launchbox should be smart to recognize that if less than 20% had issues, obviously the user wants to import the other titles.

6)

Let the software create on the fly a placeholder image for titles that do not have the box art (in case there's none). A box with a blank canvas, for each type of box art that the user chooses: 3D, flat, and all platforms. If it’s easier, do not do it on the fly, copy and paste the image for the title name in the Images folder., BUT put it in a separate folder.. Now ou have one per region, create a region named “Missing image” and put it there., that would make it so much easier to create fan box arts for titles we know are mising just by looking at that folder. Then the option to group titles that have no cover becomes unnecessary but it’s still a good adition. But this feature would make this software so much a head of the other ones.

7) An even better way to organize the Images and help users eliminate duplicated Images: Always create a folder for each game, and include all the images of that game into an Images subfolder for each game (no matter what image type it is) (eliminting the general Images folder alltogether) The option already exists in the import section to create a folder for each game but Launchbox doesn't do much with it. Also, Include an option in Launchbox to export all the images of all selected games to a zip file or to a selected folder. If a user wants all the images into 1 single folder, maybe they want to copy them all for some reason., it would be helpful.

Great job!

Thank you.
