Store downloaded artwork into rom folder

Issue #5231 new

Store all downloaded artwork into rom folder, for example, i have all my games stored on a hard drive called “Consoles” and each folder in that drive is a console, and inside that folder a game folder where is all data related to that specific game like fanart, box front, screenshot, music theme and the actual rom file, i don’t like to have to store all game data on LaunchBox folder, this should be optional.

Ex of my consoles drive structure:

D:\Sony Playstation\Crash Bandicoot\Crash Bandicoot.pbp

Along with the .pbp rom i already have all game art that i need, so no need for scrap, LB should only read the rom and look for game artwork there IF missing some artwork like screenshot, download and store there not on the LB folder.

As for the naming it would have to change to, as every single piece of art downloaded comes with the game name with prefix _01 and separeted by folder wich is hard to mantain, all art related to a said game should be in the game folder with the files name different, like …\Crash Bandicoot\ → fanart.jpg → boxart.jpg → screenshot.jpg → theme.mp3 → theme.mp4 → info.xml, and it goes on, everything related to that game should be on that game folder.

You can have the games anywhere you want. You do not need to move them to \\LaunchBox\Games\ for it to work, when doing the Rom or File import simply select to leave the files where they are.

You can also change the image folders for each platform to point to where you want. Go to Tools > Manage Platforms. Pick the platform in question and then go to the Folders tab.

Yes about the games i know i can leave them where they are, what i didn’t know was that i could change where the game images would be stored, thats good to know.

But my concern about the folder structure to organize the files is pretty messy, separating the same game images on various folders, i believe if i want to change something about a particular game like for example, i know that the game is God of War and the plataform is PS2, so to see every file about that game i would go to where i stored that rom (D:\Sony Playstation 2\God of War\*) and everything would be there be it game manual, box front, background, screenshot, etc… Every piece of information about that game would be there ready to manually edit if necessary or also manually add too.

Making it more clear right now Launch Box separate game information in folders like:

Type of information (Ex: Images) → Plataform → Type of image → Game name-01.jpg

What i suggest for more clean and more organized is:

    ONE main folder → Plataform → Game → All About that game (manual.pdf, box front.jpg, background.jpg, screenshot.jpg, logo.png, theme.mp3, trailer.mp4…)
