Fanart for Series?

I have a lot of fanart that I want to associate with my games, but the art doesn't really go with any particular title so much as it does with a franchise (for instance, a piece of art featuring Dr. Doom battling Darth Vader). These characters have appeared in many games, and as of right now my solution has been to make a copy of the picture for every individual game that I can think of where it applies... But it would make things a lot easier if I could just tuck the image into a "Star Wars" and "Marvel Superheroes" folder and have it appear as fanart across many games. Maybe this would cause excessive slowdown? I'm not sure. If it has no ill side-effects, it would be much appreciated.
