Videos & Media Cleanup

Issue #5406 resolved
Seth Hamill created an issue

Currently on LaunchBox 10.15 I have 11 games that have correctly working videos

Video file names:

  1. \Videos\Nintendo DS\LEGO Harry Potter_ Years 5-7.mp4
  2. \Videos\Nintendo GameCube\UEFA Champions League_ 2004-2005.mp4
  3. \Videos\Nintendo Wii\LEGO Harry Potter_ Years 1-4.mp4
  4. \Videos\Nintendo Wii\LEGO Harry Potter_ Years 5-7.mp4
  5. \Videos\Sega CD\NFL_s Greatest_ San Francisco vs. Dallas 1978-1993.mp4
  6. \Videos\Sega Genesis\Operation Europe_ Path to Victory 1939-45.mp4
  7. \Videos\Sony Playstation\UEFA Champions League_ Season 1998-99.mp4
  8. \Videos\Sony Playstation\UEFA Champions League_ Season 1999-2000.mp4
  9. \Videos\Sony Playstation\UEFA Champions League_ Season 2000-2001.mp4
  10. \Videos\Sony PSP\LEGO Harry Potter_ Years 1-4.mp4
  11. \Videos\Super Nintendo Entertainment System\Operation Europe_ Path to Victory 1939-45.mp4

When upgrading to LaunchBox 11.0 these same 11 games do not have videos on the Game Details page. The videos are still present in the Videos folder. When running the Clean Up Media wizard, these 11 videos will be among those offered to be removed. If you allow them to be removed from the videos folder, any video that LaunchBox downloads to replace it will be suffixed with “-01”, for example: LEGO Harry Potter_ Years 5-7-01.mp4. I have no other videos in my collection with “-01” suffixed, so this is undesirable for consistency purposes. Having LaunchBox import the original file as a “Video Snap” will still cause the “-01” suffix, regardless of whether the original filename exists.

TLDR: 11.0 release caused 11 videos in my collection to be ignored, and replacing the videos will always suffix a “-01” to the filename

I have the same issue with quite a lot of different media. Running the ‘auto search for similar’ option in media cleanup removes a lot of images and videos that don’t have any similar replacements. I’m then left with missing media.

I’m not sure if it’s only the media I’ve manually added, without the -01, -02 suffix. If I can bring myself to run the cleanup again (it took several hours) then I’ll have a look.

When you were on 10.15 were these videos added to your game as the games Video Path in the Edit screen or just sitting in that folder?

The videos were located in the respective platform’s folder. On the LaunchBox sidebar the videos were displaying correctly and the video’s path was visible by using the Edit Game dialog > Other > Game Video Path. Upon upgrading, the paths were no longer set, and the videos were not displaying on the sidebar. The videos were still located in their respective folder after the upgrade. Other games in my collection were unaffected by this, and display properly.

Sure thing. All of this testing was done on a virtual machine and I still have the 10.15 snapshot. So if you need any further information from me, or any other tests performed I’d be happy to assist.

I installed upgraded from 10.15 to 11.0 and finally to 11.1-beta-2. Without doing anything else, the video snaps are working again. I ran the Clean Up Media utility on videos as a quick test, and nothing came up for deletion. This is working as expected.
