Categorized Genres

Issue #5641 resolved

Similar to how “Platform Categories” works right now, I’d like to see Genres made into a more flexible, categorical thing. Allow users to decide what Genres fit into which Genre Categories.

So a user would be able to individually select “JRPG”, “Tactics RPG”, etc. or select the RPG heading above them to view all RPGs.

In the future this might lead to updating the database to reflect this, and having some preset categories; but ideally it would always be user configurable.

We don’t currently have nested genres but this can be done already with Platform Categories using the auto-gen feature.

Genre view inside of LaunchBox does now support nesting. For example you could have “Shooter / First Person” as a genre value and “First Person” would nest itself under “Shooter”. This only works for a genre/sub-genre pair and doesn’t go past sub-genre level. Meaning that you cannot have a “Shooter / First Person / With ADS” genre and have “With ADS” appear under “Shooter”. The app would put “First Person / With ADS” under shooter instead.
