Add choice to scrape a platform when using a custom name

Issue #583 duplicate

I'm currently doing a 2nd LaunchBox for install just for MAME games and the reason I'm doing so is because I want to have 27 platforms based of the alphabet and one platform for games that have numbered titles. When adding the games if I choose the platform name arcade 1st it will scrape everything fine then I have to choose all the games and change the platform to what I want and then move all of the metadata to the correct folder which isn't the best of fun. If I choose for example B as the platform name and MAME as the emulator then it does everything as expected except getting any Metadata now if there was an option to tell the importer to scrape the arcade section of the database for B or even any other arcade system it would greatly improve the ease of adding arcade systems using any name that you want. I hope others will like this idea as I can see it coming in handy in speeding up the process of adding arcade games

This could also help for people wanting to split systems like Famicom, SuperFamicom, PC Engine and PC Engine CD*

In the case of MAME you can call the platform what ever you want and check the box to "force mame metadata" during the import process. As long as the platform uses the naming scheme of MAME it will work and the platform should be able to be called what ever it wants.

If this works let me know and I'll close the ticket.

Just saw your reply, yea this doesn't solve that problem but we do have a list of alternative names built in, so if you are importing Super Nintendo (SNES) as just SNES it should still pick up games, but potentially not as much.

Brad I don't know about that but if you name the platform whatever you want and force MAME metadata it only does the naming correctly it finds absolutely no metadata plus if you are using MAME as the emulator it gives you the extra MAME form so I don't think you would have to check that box as you are already using MAME. The issue is with the new DB it is much pickier than the GDB was before if you entered Sega Model 2 you would get all the results from arcade now if you enter Sega Model 2 as your platform you will get absolutely no metadata at all.
