Over 24 Hours to Import MAME Rom Set from the US

I am a lifetime licensed LB user. I live in a major US city using a known and verified gigabit fiber connection provided by CenturyLink. It has taken me over 24 hours now to complete an import of a full MAME Rom set using the in-app import wizard. My throughput, according to my NIC is less than 1Mpbs on average. I understand this is due to the fact that folks in the US are pulling the files directly from the Netherlands. I know CDNs and other solutions are cost prohibitive, but if there’s anything else that can be done to improve import performance from LB’s servers by your international customers, even if just offered as a premium licensed tier service, please consider doing so. I would have gladly paid to use it.

More than likely if you are experiencing this level of slowness you had the “Rough image match” checkbox checked during import. This dramatically increases import times and it scans all images after downloading to check for images that look like duplicates which takes considerable amounts of time.

I think in general the download speeds are also slow, regardless of “Rough image match” (which does slow things down, so that’s a very helpful point for OP).

That said, I have a 1 GB symmetrical connection, and hardwired in my PC is currently getting 804.1 Megabits per second and I’m getting roughly 7 Megabits down with the files. Much of this can be attributed to the fact that I’m getting several little files instead of one big package. Not sure there’s a solution. I paid for and installed Launchbox/Bigbox a few weeks ago, and I am still getting metadata despite having left it running 24/7 for several days.

But in part, it just is what it is. Unless we are able to get .zip files with all possible media from individual systems. THAT would be amazing.
