edits, changes, not saving

Issue #5909 invalid
Mark Wu created an issue

LaunchBox free version 11.9; Windows 10 pro OS build 19041.746; problem occurs with every use of LaunchBox.

If I make an edit to the notes field of a game, or delete an entire game, these changes are not saved upon exiting LaunchBox.

Look in your \Data\platforms folder. Do you have any backup files for your platforms stored there are any files other than the main platform named xml files?

Example: Do you have a Sega Genesis.xaml and a file named “Sega Genesis_backup.xaml”.

If you have any extra files in there that might contain the platform name in it LB will try to read both files. You need to only have the main xaml that LB generates in that folder.

Dear Retro808, Thank you for your prompt message. Interestingly, there was a folder, “Arcade_Dell.xaml” accompanying the folder, “Arcade.xaml”. After deleting, “Arcade_Dell.xaml”, edits and a delete seem to be saved after exiting LaunchBox. Maybe this issue is resolved? How did this extraneous folder become created initially? I certainly did not manually create it.

What we have seen in the past are a couple possibilities. 1: If using external scraping programs like Skraper those programs can create platform xml files, usually it is the backup I mentioned. 2: If the user downloaded one of the “pre-built” LB set-ups created by another user it could have came from the creator of that build. I am not saying either caused your issue. Just advising what has been historic. LB does not create any platform xmls unless done so by a user.

For the past couple of days, LaunchBox will not launch, pun intended. I’ve tried tablet mode and desktop mode. In both instances, after I click on the shortcut or the app from the applist, the screen shows my Windows wallpaper, but then fails to open LaunchBox. When I try to launch using file explorer, nothing happens.

I have important information to add to this thread. Of note, I have LaunchBox on my OneDrive cloud storage and OneDrive system folder, which is accessed locally. Interestingly, when I download LaunchBox for the first time using OneDrive sync, a toast pops up notifying me that there is a sync problem that creates a duplicate file. I discovered that the duplicate file indeed appears in the data folder, either in the platforms subfolder or another subfolder of the data folder. I think that perhaps sometimes when I am synchronizing OneDrive, even if not downloading for the first time, there is a duplicate file made.
