Beta 11.12 Issue: new Media Download blocks other Processes

Issue #6126 resolved
Chris Kant created an issue

this new feature from 11.12 Beta 2:

  • New Feature: Media downloads are now saved and resumed when exiting and restarting LaunchBox

should be able to pause so other processes can start in that time which are not able to do in parallel. Examples:

  • adding new games into the library
  • combine two or more games together
  • expand one game into multiple
  • download media for more than one entry
  • change data for multiple games with the Batch functionality

if we can pause the download process and resume it could help to make this new feature less annoying. because we would be able to manage the game library and let Launchbox download the media over night.

I was adding Nintendo Famicom Games into my library: nearly 700 Games and it was more than 120.000 media files that should be downloaded and took 2 to 3 days.

We’ve updated the codebase to allow for more interactions to work properly when you have a images downloading. Changes will be in next release. I think I will create a second ticket for the pause request and resolve this one for now. After the next release though if you run into any other issues with the image downloader stopping you from using LaunchBox feel free to reopen the ticket and let us know what process you are having problems with.

Resolving this ticket as the blocking has been eliminated in next version for all but 1 or 2 processes. I have created ticket 6135 for us to track the implement of any pause or scheduling features for the image download queue that you were also requesting. Make sure you cast a vote for that feature.
