Feature request to sync users library of metadata and media with the LB database.

Issue #6143 new
mark007 created an issue

As I find some mistakes in the Launchbox DB I am trying to fix them, eg marking some 3D boxes (that are actually 3D carts) as 3D boxes. What I am wondering if/when those launchbox db modifications are accepted by the administrators, is Launchbox able to then allow me / others to automatically 'fix' their media collection. (Thinking out loud: Is it in some way able to recognize that the md5s for some files that are in say the "Box - 3D" folder are now in the "Cart - 3D" folder, so some sort of cleanup may need to be done to remove those originally badly marked images from the "Box - 3D" folder.) I guess this would mean the entire community would benefit from fixes people are making to the various media images associated with each game over time.

I would guess if this was somehow possible, it might manifest itself as some sort of an option (a global one, or perhaps per game) to perhaps “Keep media and metadata in sync with database”. Ie don’t try to preserve any locally modified/added metadata or images for the given game, do whatever is required in terms of moving images around/changing metadata, to keep in sync with those online sources.

I would personally check this box for all of my games so that over time my database improves and doesn’t get cluttered slowly but surely with those small mistakes I described above. They would resolve themselves over time, if this feature was possible to implement.

(Again Thinking Out Loud: If hashes/md5s are used for media to help implement this feature, can the same be done for metadata to check if a users local metadata is the same as whats in the db, to avoid re-downloading it. I guess either an md5 of the content or something that achieves the same, such as a automatically incrementing version of that metadata).
