Can the DEFAULT Theme be updated so it displays Background Fanart?

Issue #6190 closed
MaLarryA created an issue

Is it possible for playlists to show FANART images when no background video is present within the DEFAULT theme? If possible, can the DEAFULT theme (which uses videos for Platform and Playlists) to use Background art if no video is available? The CiriticalZone V2 Default themes doesn’t use videos, which is fine, but does make good use of background art in playlists.

I'd like these playlists in the Default theme...

to show Fanart background images like this from the CriticalZone V2 theme...

Thanks for your time.

The default does do this as well. You need to check the box in the Images setting inside BigBox for “Use Random Game Image Background for Filters”

Thanks for looking into this. I've looked in the settings and see that I’ve had this box checked the whole time yet it still shows no artwork in the playlists.
I tried putting artwork in other folders where Default theme might be looking but still nothing appears.

However, I started changing the theme menu styles and did find some success.
Using PLATFORM LIST VIEW: TEXT WITH DETAILS for the Playlists, the artwork WORKS!!!

If I select a PLATFORM WHEEL # such as 3, the playlist background art doesn't come through.

So, apparently, the artwork isn’t working (for me anyways) when there are images (clear logos) used for the playlist wheel.

Maybe I need to completely wipe out the program and reinstall as I haven’t done that in quite some time.

Thanks for your help into this matter.

To help clear up any confusion, I completely removed the program and reinstalled. I’ve set up everything for the Dungeons & Dragons Platform once again and can replicate the problem. I have the following settings for BigBox and the DEFAULT Theme:

    1. BigBox Options:
    A. Set the Theme to DEFAULT
    B. Set the main BigBox view to use PLATFORM CATEGORIES.
This shows the main Platforms (such as Consoles, Computer Games, etc.) and then shows any Playlists upon drilldown.
    2. DEFAULT theme Options
    A. VIEWS
    1. Platform List View: PLATFORM WHEEL 1 (NO BACKGROUND ARTWORK SHOWS)
    2. Platform List View: TEXT LIST WITH DETAILS (SHOWS BACKGROUND ARTWORK)
    2. Game List View: TEXT LIST WITH DETAILS
    B. IMAGES
    1. Use Platform Fanart Backgrounds - CHECKED
    2. Use Platform Device Image Backgrounds - CHECKED

I did notice that my Playlist for Video Games contained downloaded artwork for D&D DOS games. The Screenshot Background artwork for these games did display for that playlist. These, however, were not PLAYLIST artwork.

I have figured out what's happening:

Setting the Platform List View IN VIEWS to PLATFORM WHEEL 1, 2, 3, OR 4 will not show any artwork from the PLAYLIST ARTWORK FOLDERS.
THIS IS BECAUSE THE PROGRAM IS ONLY LOOKING FOR VIDEOS IN THE PLAYLIST VIDEO FOLDER  AND NOT DEFAULTING TO PLAYLIST ARTWORK WHEN NO VIDEO IS AVAILABLE.
This may be a bug since setting the Playlist Menus to TEXT shows Playlist Artwork when no video is available but using CLEAR LOGOS for the playlist menu shows no playlist artwork.

I tested this theory by renaming a video to Forgotten Realms, placing it in the Videos/Playlists folder, and, sure enough, it shows the video when selecting the Forgotten Realms playlist.

Please let me know if you need more information.
    Thanks for your help!

What version LB/BB are you on?

I wonder if you have something else going on. Doing the exact steps from your post the Default theme displays a Playlist fanart image without issue.

In the images attached I took a MegaMan fanart and placed in the fanart folder for my Metroid Collection. Named the image after the collection and made sure my settings matched the ones you mentioned above. In the last image you can see it is displaying the MegaMan fanart I used as the fanart for Metroid Collection.

Hi, Retro808. I am using the latest Beta version of LB/BB. I believe I am able to see the problem is expressing itself since I am not using a pre-existing video game platform with downloaded media but rather my Dungeons & Dragons platform. Are the images you are seeing for the Metroid Collection found within the Playlists/Metroid Collection or are they found in the Videos/Playlists folder? I wouldn’t think this was a bug if it were not for the fact that it functions perfectly when I use TEXT for the Platform Categories/Playlist menus in Big Box but doesn’t show the playlist images when using clear logos for the menu items. It may help by installing the Dungeons & Dragons Platform to see the issue as perhaps I am missing something there.

I really appreciate the help. Let me know if you’d like to discuss further, perhaps over video conference.
