Feature Request: Choose to Show only selected Playlist and platforms in BigBox

Issue #6227 new

Since I can use LaunchBox/BigBox on as many devices as I want, and depending on what computer its on, will determine how I set up LaunchBox/BigBox. I will likely have it on multiple computers. I have one, my wife has one, and we have one in the Living room for the TV. I also build arcade cabinets and plan on having certain games based on type and/or theme of the cabinet.

So the Feature request is to have control over showing only selected Playlists and System Platforms I want.

EXAMPLE:

I have a Ninja themed arcade cabinet. I want to only show certain Playlists and certain platforms based on the theme.

Of course I will have a Ninja Games Playlist, This one playlist will only feature games with Ninjas in it from multiple consoles: 8bit to 64bit, Wii, Arcade, Playstation 2, Playstation 3 and Steam.

I will also have an Asian Influenced Playlist with games featuring anything from Cobra Kai, Kung Fu,, and Samurai, to the Yakuza and Hong Kong cinema shootouts. This will also include multiple consoles/systems.

A Mulavac’s Favorites Playlist including a mix of just my favorite games across multiple platforms that have nothing to do with the cabinet theme.

Now here's where it gets tricky, in addition to the 3 selected playlists, I also want to only show the selected 2 platforms: arcade and Daphne.

So, that's showing only 3 playlist and 2 platforms. Unless I didn't notice the feature in BigBox, you can't show some playlists/platforms and hide others on startup.

Better yet, How about adding a BigBox curated Playlist/Platform playlist?? With this you could create multiple playlist theme list of different configurations of playlists/console combos? Example: I wanted to launch BigBox with: the above Ninja games theme for me, but If my wife wants to play, I’d launch a Mario and Platformer theme with only those types of games, And lastly, if my young daughter wants to play, I could change it to launch a Barbie/Little girls games theme with playlists and platforms of games that’s appropriate for her. So, this isn’t necessarily just parental controls, but a way to launch whole curated themes of selected playlists and platforms.

Thank you for all your hard work on this awesome game organizer/frontend! I hope I was clear in my explanation.

Hi @Mulavac . Thanks for the request and we have it noted.

In the meantime, for the first part, you could make an Arcade and a Daphne playlist, then in Big Box you could tell it to load directly into your Playlists.

One way you could accomplish the second part would be to create multiple versions of LaunchBox/Big Box, each one only containing the specific games and playlists that you want. Since LaunchBox is portable, you can create multiple versions for each of your use cases.

I’m curious why you want games bloating your arcade systems with roms/systems you have no intention of letting anyone actually play. Why not just add the games you want on the system and not import the others?

Hi @brian, to clarify, my idea is basically adding the ability for individual custom User Profiles. - I mean, organizing and customization is what Launch Box/Big Box is all about right?

    EXAMPLES:

    1. Easy quick assess to certain games for multi user households, - (ex. Only games for 5 year-olds show up on this profile.)
    2. Game genre themes - (ex. Only Ninja games on this profile.)
    3. Events to showcase certain games - (ex. Only certain games show up on your custom arcade cabinet when you bring it to a church function on this profile.)
