Option(s) to control backup behavior

I would love to have a few options added to control backup behavior. in my case, to help in support of non realtime parity based solutions.

having the ability to choose how many backups are kept or to even keep them in perpetuity to be left to the user to clear out would be great. also the ability to choose where they are deleted to would be stellar and cover bases for the majority of cases i can think of, even outside my own.

at current theyre just disappeared into the nether. even removal to the windows recycling bin would be preferred to that.
