Feature request: "Play" and "Play as..." prioritize region improvement at rom level.

Issue #6833 resolved

Actually the region priorities when import roms and images is awesome (Tools → Options → Data → Region Priorities) but I want to import all the roms from all regions and just be able to select the region order and default region directly from library under the rom option "Play version dropdown” for every emulated platform .

i.e.: I want to import USA, Japan and EUR roms for NES platform. Once imported all of the regions (because I don’t want to lose any to be always able to choose) I know I can change the default rom region at "EDIT -> ASSOCIATED APPS -> USA" to always Play USA rom for a single game at a time.
It would be amazing if I could select the region order for the entire NES platform too, the same way we can prioritize the roms at the time of import from the "Data region priorities" menu.

NES Platform:

  • Default rom region to play when click any NES rom: USA
  • Dropdown menu order on "Play Version.." (secondary regions selected by user): USA, EUR, Japan, Canada, Germany
(If there is a game without USA region, then it chooses by default the next secondary region checked, same as "Data region priorities" implementation does with their checkboxes and order)

I think It would be a good feature to be able to select the default region per platform and to order the secondary regions aswell because some users want to have all rom versions available and this would help us to mark our preferred ones directly at the library.

Thank you very much and congratulations for such a great piece of software!!!

Bit confused, as you’ve stated the import already uses the existing region priorities. If you want them different per console you can change them before import, but I’m not sure I understand why you’re using different region priorities per platform. You’re the first person to ever really request it, as most users want the same priority globally. Curious if you have an example of a platform you’d want prioritized differently than your global settings and why?

Hi Christian and thank you for your comment. I don’t know if I’m experiencing a different situation, if I could set the same region priorities for all the platforms I would be happy. But it’s not like that.
I’ve imported the NES as an example platform with the region priorities marked and ordered as “USA, EUR, Japan, Canada, Germany” (before import). After a successful import I’ve got all the rom with their regions imported but the default selected region per rom is not USA and the dropdown menu order when “Play as…” is not “EUR, Japan, Canada, Germany” they’re not in the order I selected and that’s why I’m requesting an after-import solution. I thought the current import method was to discard roms, not to sort them the way I want 🤔

Finally found the reason for the malfunction and it was from my side. I've got romsets with brackets "[USA], [Europe], [Japan]" separators instead of parentheses "(USA), (Europe), (Japan)" so Launchbox doesn't interpret correctly the brackets and doesn't apply the region order. That's why I was asking for a way to force it after import.

It would be nice if it could be compatible with different type of separators but…….. Solved!!!

    Thank you!!!
