Better multi-game metadata edit dialog

Issue #6938 new
Osvaldo Andreaus created an issue

I think the editing dialog can be improved with some simple quality of life enhancements:

When editing multiple games the Bulk Edit Wizard seems a bit cumbersome. One idea is the same as most music software showing how many games are selected and providing the same dialog as if one game was selected. The fields that have different metadata just show a ‘mixed’ text in a lighter color. MusicBee does something similar but also adds checkboxes to further emphasize which tags are being changed.

An alternative idea could be to use the same UI as editing associated platforms for emulators and basically be able to add multiple field changes to a grid widget for quickly changing multiple fields at once.

it is a good idea, I have proposed Issue #6958 for playlists editor, and this can be applied to my proposal. The difference is that usually playlists are less than roms, so you can manage 3-10 at once. But I have managed 200-500 roms with bulk editor, LB can handle this with a so great numbers? Maybe your idea can be applied when we manage at maximum…how much? 30 roms? Dont know. With bigger number we enter the classic bulk editor. Yes, I fear that LB collapse ^_^

If the concern is querying more than 10 roms at once to display the metadata then I think the grid (or spreadsheet) view is the best option. There’s no querying involved and it just allows to quickly queue actions that will be performed one by one when ready instead of going through a sequence of dialogs.

I just started to make playlists in my launchbox so I never had to deal with more than 1 at a time but I can see how editing multiple playlists will eventually be useful, I’ll vote on your proposed issue. 😉
