Req: Scale cover images

Issue #7576 new
D Klein created an issue

Sometimes there are game cover images that disturb the entire collection impression. For example in the N64 there is a game names “Last Legion UX”. It has a portrait cover while the rest has landscape format cover. It appears with different image size when browsing the games. It would be nice if we could set a default cover image dimension an have LB either crop or scale the available cover images to the given size

Hi, would it not just be easier if you edit and change the image yourself? There’s also a section in the forum where you could ask for help to create a landscape cover.

That was just an example. Check Sega Mega CD, its either landcape or portrait format covers and changing them all by hand is tedious. And yes, I talk about more than 1 N64 Cover and Sega CD only

Stretching a portrait cover to display landscape would make the image look pretty terrible since it’d be heavily distorted. I could see eventually looking into a way to limit what images you acquire in Download Media based on aspect ratio but I’m not sure we’d ever force downloaded images to appear in such a drastically different aspect. It IS possible however for you to potentially theme that logic in.

The games in one Collection would not be landsacpe or portrait. Its either - or usually. You could Just use the aspect ratio of the first Image in a Collection and scale the other images with the same AR or have an Option to Set the AR for a Collection. I think people rather have a some what distorted image that blends in than no Image at all?

Also while working on games with no Image i found that often games have the wrong filename and thus are not found in the database. While its easy to change the name of the Game according, it would be nice to have an option to rename the file so next time the game will be found.

    E. G. Formular 1 for sega game gear does not exist, But Formular One does. Option to rename it to Formula One so on next scan it will auto detect?
