Renaming files

Don’t know if it already might exist and I just haven’t found it, but…

The biggest problem I have going through all games is the amount of times Launchbox can’t find the name of the game. Usually it’s because the files have some extra naming in them or added some word somewhere. (vectrex come to mind since most of the games I have ends with “by creatorsname” which messes with Launchbox.

I fix these when I find them, but there is a lot of them and many times the change in name is so slight it’s rename, try, repeat (some games is as small thing as replacing “2” with “II” or vice verse. And since I fix this when using Launchbox, the files stay named wrong for it and I have to redo it all if I start over or make Launchbox update metadata of everything.

So: Idea! (If it’s not already possible)

An option to make Launchbox rename the physical files it have the right meta data for so that the files are named in a way that make Launchbox find them correctly if I have to redo everything. Just that. This way I can in my own time actually go through a batch from time to time, have them correctly renamed and save the files to another place so I eventually have every gamefile correctly named making it possible to add them all at once as a batch knowing it will find them all correctly.

Hope you get what I mean. ;)

I don't know if I’d like having renamed my files. I think that the problem is the searching procedure. It is true that if you have “2” or “II” cannot find the right game. And what I dont understand is that it finds the game for a different platform. I search a game in windows and it finds it in Nintendo switch. I think that the searching procedure should search only in the platform that I have chosen (or the scraped one) and it should allow a better range of results, just to include “2” in arabic and in roman way. Also for the special character… it cannot find a game with “-” if the original name is with “:”. At this point you don't need to rename the files. Just to add info, if in the file name appear “(text)” it is not searched.
