Different Types of Roms

Issue #895 new
Former user created an issue

When i download a Rom for a game, I Usually get many different versions. Some hacked, fixed, different languages (etc.)

Right now i have to go through all the game folders and delete the different rom files so that launchbox can use the correct file.

Launchbox should have a feature to import rom files with a certain tag...or organize a platform based on language or type of file.

example

"N64 Normal" "N64 Japanese" "N64 Hacked"

Unfortunetly that is a lot harder than it seems and the more logic during the import process the longer it will take. There is also no standard generally speaking. My honest suggestion would be to have the file name display in the game details bar on the right side of LaunchBox.

The only way to do this is if there was a MD5 Hash database that the program can check against but it would be a nightmare to create and keep updated.

Not to mention these checks can change without the file being changed or corrupted. So if someone has a different string than what we have, the file may be totally fine, playable and usable but we couldn't pick it up. We know that this is a commonly requested thing (I swore there was a ticket for this... it might be for just region displaying, but it's essentally the same exact idea) but there isn't a really easy way for us to do it so it doesn't impact the user so much.
