"Mercurial reported error number 255: Python(18576) malloc: mmap (size=140732187336704) failed (error code=12) error: can't allocate region *** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug abort: out of memory"

In the log there is a message when I added the large file to the repository before committing it:

"Standard error was: DB_Aux/cross.validation.cat1_new.no_more_patents: up to 9879 MB of RAM may be required to manage this file"

The file in question is large: 3,293,213,537 bytes. Nevertheless, I would expect that this should be possible.

Thanks, Richard

Unfortunately the file is too big. You are going to have to use one of the big files extensions to work with such files: See this mercurial thread.

This is unfortunately a mercurial issue...

OK, Jason, thanks. I've browsed the the links in the thread, but I have the impression there is no extension that is transparent to hg once it's installed, so at some point in managing such large files I would have to manually intervene in my MacHg workflow and issue hg commands in the terminal app. Is that impression correct? Do you see any possibility that MacHg will support large files in the future using one of the suggested extensions, but in a transparent way? Regards, Richard

Yes. I got that impression myself that maybe this was the case... I was actually wanting someone to investigate the situation a bit and find out what the incompatibilities were... :) Then I would look at trying to make MacHg work seamlessly with the correct extension in the future if thats nicely possible...

    Cheers, Jas
