Best Answer: You didn't mention which model you have. If gpx power t through the lights or splice it in somewhere else you may be taking the risk of a surge to it. Too easy for someone else to come along and just take it. Rather than trying to route the cable around to the battery, I just had the shop install a cigarette lighter socket for such devices. You also have the fuse for accessories that will protect it. I pop it off and lock it in my saddlebag or take it with me. The lights draw several amps, and the fuse is rated for at least 33% more than that, while the Garmin would only draw a few extra milliamps, not even a full extra amp. But I don't leave my Garmin on my bike when I'm not riding. I'm assuming that's what you are talking about. But your Garmin will not draw appreciatively more power that would blow the fuse for the running lights. I have a 2820 Street Pilot which comes with the cigarette litter adapter with a speaker in it for the voice prompts. You also have the fuse for accessories that will protect it.
