Webinars

We are very pleased to announce a short series of free online classes as an introduction to cosmological parameter estimation in general and the parameter estimation code CosmoSIS in particular.

This webinar series is intended for Ph.D. students, postdocs and faculty who are interested in learning about modern parameter estimation techniques in astronomy, how to use the CosmoSIS code and how CosmoSIS can help them in their work. We hope this will be a useful resource for anyone new to the field or anyone interested in using modern sampling techniques.

The webinars will be broadcast live using ReadyTalk which will allow attendees to ask questions and post comments, and recorded and linked here later.

The schedule and dates for the two sessions are:

Monday Oct 24th at 11am Central (9am Pacific, 5pm UK)

Introduction to Cosmological parameter estimation and sampling

  • Models and parameter spaces
  • The ingredients of cosmological models & example CosmoSIS implementations
  • Sampling methods
  • Metropolis Hastings theory & example in CosmoSIS
  • Making plots from MCMCs

Tuesday Oct 25th at 11am Central (9am Pacific, 5pm UK)

CosmoSIS: Advanced sampling and creating new cosmological pipelines

  • Ensemble samplers and exotic exploration methods
  • Modular cosmological pipelines in CosmoSIS
  • Building new "modules" in cosmological pipelines in C and Python
  • Storing data in CosmoSIS
  • Putting it all together
