Can not create drill cnc job

Issue #372 closed
Bruce Vernham created an issue

Downloaded latest x64 beta exe (8.991)

Installed on windows 10 and Gerber's work fine

Load txt file and drills show up and plot as expected.

Check the drill.i.want to.create cnc file for.

Set depth and feed rate.

Push generate and it says “error select tool”

The tool I selected becomes unselected.

I tried all combinations and the same thing happens

I used old version a long time ago with no issues.

Thanks for the great work

I also tried the install release 8.99 X 64 with the same result.

The installer release 8.4 X86 does work as expected.

My tool pane does not look like that.

I have a check box to plot and it shows me the number of drills but there is no offset column or any way to select the drills like in the gif.

This was the same for 8.991 and 8.99.

Did you install from the x64 installation package?

Now and before I used FlatCAM beta 8.991 x64. I am almost always in Advanced mode of the app and I keep forgetting that some people don’t look in the Preferences 🙂
I guess you have to switch to Advanced Mode. Go to Edit → Preferences → General → APP.LEVEL and choose the Advanced option in the radio button. Save preferences. Reload your files or reboot the app and load your files.

But even in Basic Mode you should be able to make it work.

I could not select/high lite the drill number on my screen.

All I could do is select the plot box.

I will try again in advanced mode but I am not getting the same response.

Are there any known good example projects I can tee to make sure it has nothing to do with the project?

Sorry but I really had no issues ever in selecting a row in one of the Tool tables. It should work out of the box (sort of speaking). You could try loading any Excellon file that is supported by FlatCAM and you should be able to pick (select) which tools to be used in the CNCJob generation. CTRL + row click allow you to make a custom selection from the tools. That because perhaps the larger holes you may want them milled and the smaller holes drilled etc.

I tried the same file for all the version and everything worked as expected with 8,5 x86 release (I did not see an x64 release for 8.5).

8.5 version is a version with a lower complexity and it is the base from which I started building what is called the beta versions. It is hard for me to give you any kind of advice since I can’t reproduce the issue.

What you can do is to:

    • write a step by step guide in order to help me reproduce your issue
    • perhaps easier, use a screen recorder and record whatever you are doing to create the issue and post the link to the file here (Dropbox, MEGA link etc).

BTW, the software will automatically select all tools after loading the Excellon. The plot selection (column P) is only for visual toggle of the display of the associated drills and not for selecting a tool.

    Well this is confusing.

Reinstalled 8.991. Ran in advanced configuration.

    No issues.

    Restarted in basic.

    No issue.

Confused why 8.991 and 8.99 would not work before.

Things like that may happen if an older defaults file from a previous FlatCAM beta install is found on your system. Other than that I don’t know what could trigger such issue because the table widget is part of the PyQt5 framework and I don’t think there is a bug there.

Please close the issue if/when you think that is the case.
