./configure \ --localstatedir=/var --enable-starttls \ --enable-tcpwrappers \ --with-database=mysql

    you are right. The installation page refers to the previous configure options, because I didn't want to confuse users downloading the stable version.

    Except ... I keep getting this error.

    I've tried (0.1.23) with both CentOS and Debian. MySQL is definitely installed just fine.
