An interesting IMAP riddle

New install of your wonderful product! Thanks for putting in so much time! I wish my company weren’t such cheapskates and would pay you for it instead of relying on open source. We installed vanilla on Ubuntu server 20.04. Everything is working, except restoring over IMAP is behaving oddly.

We can restore email that has been recently deleted from the mailbox (Exchange 2013) fine. We archived off all email prior to 2020 and thats all imported into Piler. If someone tries to restore an email from say, 2019, it never shows up. Is this due to our archiving of the mailboxes??? Completely baffled as to why it never shows up, and in the maillog shows Duplicate Message.

Any thoughts are hugely welcome.

I’m leaving it set on ‘bug’ but its not a bug. I know its something in our config.

Is there any clue in the Exchange logs when you try to restore older (2019) emails? I’d look for differences when you restore a recent deleted email and an older deleted email.

Anyway, try setting $config['RESTORE_EMAILS_AS_ATTACHMENT'] = 1; in config-site.php, and see if it improves the situation. And/or try $config['REWRITE_MESSAGE_ID'] = 1; Note that these alter or tweak the restored message somewhat, so the ideal solution would be finding the cause why Exchange behaves differently for older and recent emails.

PS: Using the open source product is fine :-)
