pilerimport error (IMAP)

Hi!

I use the following command to import user messages from the imap server. The action is repeated in a loop (bash script) processing another imap account. On one of the user accounts the script stops displaying the following errors. Please help me to solve this problem.

These messages come from the external helpers, piler cannot help with it unfortunately.

I clearly understand that it is an error of the external tnef tool. However, shouldn't pilerimport move on when tnef can't handle the troublesome attachment?

It should move on, and process the next message. I assume it wouldn’t do so in your case?

That's exactly right. Pilerimport stopped and hung like that for a few hours until I noticed it. I crashed the process and started over, but the pilerimport stopped in exactly the same place with the same error (pasted in this submission).

Well, I can’t give a better advice other than to rename the tnef utility, so piler won’t use it. Btw. which version is this?

After that all other folders gets the same message and the import stops and leaves all the txt files behind.
All mails in the folders before got imported.

Well, in that case I think we ran into a tnef issue. I suggest to recompile piler without tnef support, or you may raise an issue in the tnef github repo.

I’m not getting any tnef errors that i can see.
But the message i get is created here on the imap folder selection (piler/src/imap.c):

Not sure why this is the case, but it also happens with the option -o (Only download emails for POP3/IMAP import).
The mail-server is mailcow.

I see it now, it’s an imap issue in pilerimport. I suggest to use the imapfetch.py utility to download the emails, and then let pilerimport process them.

Thanks that seems to be have worked better. Still not all got imported but all emails that are now missing were SPAM so nothing important.

will setup a test account, but i can get to that earliest end of next week.
And I’m not sure how to transfer the invalid/spam mails yet, without modify them to much.
