Getting Connection timed out from smarthost

Issue #137 resolved
Hung Huynh created an issue

We are not getting any archive email in the piler. I've logged in as myself using ldap and try an empty search but no emails are listed. Not sure this has anything to do with the error but here is our environment...

We have exchange 2007 and a spam filter (barracuda). Our exchange process all of the internal emails while the spam filter process our external incoming/outgoing emails. I've tried exempting the ip of the archiver. then tried allowing the archive@piler.ourdomain.org to the allow recipient list. when that didn't work, i've tried redirecting emails that goes to archive@piler.ourdomain.org to the ip of the archiver.

please help

Firstly, make sure the archive has a valid FQDN that your users and servers can resolve. Also make sure that exchange can access piler's port 25, and piler can reach exchange's port 25.

Then setup smtp journaling in Exchange to copy all emails to the archive. See the pdf docs on the 15th page: https://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http://www.mailpiler.org/pdf/piler-0.1.24.pdf for details.

The check the maillog on piler to see what's happening. Let me know how it works for you.

i can ping piler server using dns name (piler.xxxxxx.org) and by ip. I can even telnet the piler server using smtp port 25 from the exchange server. however, i can't use HELO/EHLO command from the exchange server.

the maillog doesn't show anything besides connection from (piler's ip) and log in events.

Please check that piler is actually running, check local iptables settings, /etc/hosts.(allow|deny) settings. Verify that piler listens on 0.0.0.0:25/tcp. Install ngrep then run it and show network traffic between piler and exchange.
