Critical data in a restore

Issue #301 resolved
Former user created an issue

Can you help me understand what data is minimal to be reatined in a recovery scenario?

For example, I am hoping that the files in /var/piler/store is the only thing you need to maintain (i assume these are the actail email body and attachements) and then you can run some sort of scan to repopulate the database an indexes.

I tried to find this in the doco without luck.

You definitely need /var/piler/store files to restore an email. However because piler deduplicates attachments, you also need the piler sql database as well. The /var/piler/sphinx stuff is not required for restoring an email.

In case you don't have the sql database available, restoring is still possible*, but you can't restore selectively (eg. for a specific user only), nor restore emails with deduped attachments. So be sure to take care of the piler database as well.

*: this is a theoretical option, since the usual pilerget and other piler binaries can't help in this case. If you need this feature, then we may discuss something for you.
