New Install
I am performing a new install from the ova template. What is the username and password in Linux? Are there more detailed instructions available specifically for the OVA install?

I used the following link to help me expand the /VAR volume after I got the VM up and running: http://www.rootusers.com/how-to-increase-the-size-of-a-linux-lvm-by-expanding-the-virtual-machine-disk/ It worked great except that I had to use "/dev/sda4" instead of "/dev/sda3" even though I did not have an sda3 Also had to get the "parted" tools. "apt-get install parted" Now have 500GB for the "/var" volume

repo owner I assume you installed the piler-0.1.24.ova. If you can postpone the project with another day, then I'll create a new OVA with the latest release. Anyway I think it's time to release the next stable version, 1.1.0. The new OVA will have a 2 TB thin provisioned /var partition, featuring LVM.
After the deployment you usually want to change passwords, root, admin@local, and auditor@local, and of course the network configuration, IP-address, DNS servers, setup some sort of time synchronization. Then the details greatly depend on what environment you have, eg. Active Directory, LDAP, zimbra, etc.

reporter That sounds excellent. I will wait until Monday. My deployment will be office 365 with hybrid environment for users. Some on active directory most on office 365 with all using exchange online.
-
repo owner OK. This hybrid setup is a bit challenging, but I think we can make it.

reporter I'm a bit concerned about a 2tb thin provision! I have my storage sliced off in 4 2.18TB capacity stores each with less than 1.2tb of free space. I'm not a wiz on the storage with VMware but will a 2tb provision be to much?
-
repo owner Hmm, it can be a concern. However, I believe we can still make it. Just create a virtual machine then with the size of your choice with a 64-bit minimal Debian 7 install with network, etc. configured, then I'll help you with a teamviewer session to have an archive from scratch. It's not a ready to use ova this way, but pretty close, you'll see.
-
reporter Sounds great. I have never used Debian so I grabbed the amd64 version (hope that's good with VMware). I'll get it up and running and let you know when I have it operating. Hopefully we can schedule the teamviewer session soon.
-
reporter Can you send me the link for the 1.1.0 version we will be installing? And I am presuming it is a full install with all the pre-reqs..
-
repo owner It's not ready yet, but if you want to work ahead, get the master branch, see the download section. However no need to rush, an install script will take care of everything.
-
reporter I'd rather not work ahead - unfortunately I am not a Linux person so this is learn as I go already. Would it be just as easy to create a 500gb thin provision OVA and go forward from there? I can imagine there are quite a few folks in smaller environments like myself that wouldn't need a 2tb solution.
-
repo owner OK, fine. I'll make a smaller OVA for you. I'll let you know ready when it's ready.
-
reporter You rock! I appreciate it very much!
-
repo owner OK, try this OVA. It features debian 7.6, x64, the latest version of piler, and a (thin provisioned) 1 TB root partition, and all the passwords are the same as felog noted. You may add another disk from a different datastore later or deployment time.

If it just won't fit, then I suggest, create a VM right for your size, install your favourite linux distro, then by using a teamviewer session, I'll do the rest.
-
reporter awesome. I will give it a test run and let you know if I have any issues.

repo owner - changed status to resolved
