    Is this a new image? I tried this image about 2 months ago and it worked in VMWare ESX. In KVM I had the problem that it needs 1TB of pre-allocated disk-space which I didn't have.

    New is fairly relative, it's a few months old by now. Have you tried it with vmware? It's a thin provisioned image, and (at least vmware) should be able to handle it even with a smaller disk available (provided that you won't grow over what you actually have).
