Shrink /var/piler

Issue #646 resolved
Tim Stumbo created an issue

At most I think we'll use 300-400GB of storage with our 5 year retention policy.

I would like to resize the /var/piler from 2TB to about 500GB if possible.

I've tried to go through the normal process of resizing a linux disk but it errors out saying the disk is in use, even if I unmount it first.

I really need to resize this if possible, it's taking up 2TB on our production SAN and we're only using about 200GB right now.

Thanks

You mean the provided ova, right? If so, then have you deployed it with thin or thick provisioning?

Thick provisioning. The question though, If I shrink the vmdk disk will Piler reflect the changes or do I need to do something within Piler as well to reduce the disk size?

    Thanks

Piler (=the archiving software) has nothing to do with such shrinking, it just uses the filesystem. The underlying operating system (debian in this case) however has to be fixed before the vmdk shrink. So as the first step shrink the filesystem, then shrink the vmdk file. It may be wise to test it on another VM.

I think the issue is solved. If you need to add anything, then let me know. On the mailing list preferably.
