Import all accounts from a server

Issue #992 closed

Hello,

I was wondering if there is a way to import a complete Zimbra server, or a list of accounts, using administrator login ?

It seems to be available with Exchange, but I did not see the same for Zimbra

Jérôme

    Hi,

I was meaning import all emails from all accounts from one server, directly from Piler server, either using web interface or pilerimport cli.

Actually, exporting mailboxes (one by one), then import into piler is not a solution (almost one thousand account).

Well, I think you can script the whole zimbra process, you don’t have to do it manually 1000 times.

Anyway, we know what piler can import: rfc822 eml format emails. Now all you have to figure out how to present each and every single email in zimbra to piler. I still recommend to check out the zimbra docs, faq, and forum.

Fact is that I need to import almost 1000 accounts ( more than 2TB). For sure I could script backup. It would be very long and between start of backup and end of import in Piler .. I will have a big gap of data.

I was wondering why it’s possible to import an Exchange user account with pilerimport, using admin account credentials, but not for Zimbra. I’m using Zimbra since a long time (almost ten years), and even if I’m not a great expert, I know that it’s possible to use admin credentials to connect as a user.

It could be a great improvment if Piler was able to do the same for Zimbra 🙂

    regards

    Jérôme

I don’t follow. If you can do the same for zimbra as for exchange (ie. using admin credentials), what’s holding you back doing the same for zimbra?

I mean it’s possible to connect in any user mailbox using admin credentials, but not same way as Exchange (actually, it’s easily possible using web interface, and possible using zimbra commands). Pilerimport do not use zimbra commands to import email from a mailbox
I think pilerimport need improvement. I’ll try to find how it could be possible to do it remotely with pilerimport (or first with a ldap client)

No news is good news. If you have anything to add in the meantime, be sure to reopen the issue.
