Better solution needed for file types

The prefixing of file names for setting the different file types of uploaded files is causing very much confusion. This is mainly due to the following issues.

It is not possible to change the name of an already uploaded file.
The error messages when the naming is wrong is not pointing which file is missing.

Even with these issues fixed I would still argue that the system with prefixing the file names needs to be reworked. My proposal is to add a file type property for each uploaded file. This property could be selected via a drop down menu giving all the options. The options could be "simulated data set", "original data set", "result file for simulated data" etc This would greatly enhance the user experience and simplify the uploading process.
