foobar2000 hangs

Issue #2 new
Former user created an issue

foobar2000 version: 1.3.8

foo_input_usf version: 2.2.39

When playing track 03b "Main Menu" of the Perfect Dark soundtrack foobar2000 always hangs at 2:41 / 2:07. It used to work perfectly before, but unfortunately I am unable to tell exactly which version introduced this bug.

Actually, all tracks of the Perfect Dark soundtrack make foobar2000 hang at 2:41, while ex. Goldeneye plays just fine... Is this a problem with the soundtrack..?

I'm getting this happen on Banjo-Tooie as well. I can't track down which track is doing it so I'm guessing it's multiple ones. You can grab the one I'm referring to from here - http://usf.joshw.info/b/

I can confirm that on the latest release of Foobar2000 1.3.14 and foo_input_usf 2.2.39 with the Perfect Dark set from usf.joshw.info (last changed in 2013) and perfectdark.usflib matching your SHA. The tracks hang at 2:41. Tried it with Carrington Institute, but any replay gain operation that plays the songs faster will hang sooner probably hanging in the same spot. This is a real headscratcher to me too.

The Banjo Tooie set Benjamin uses with NUS-NB7E-USA.usflib SHA1=E39D4380F42B2195DD4322A9908E1AE48CBA4CB3 hangs at 1:23, tested with Glitter Gulch Mine: Normal and Hailfire Peaks: Normal (Fire) too. Foobar Stops responding in all cases and needs to be forcefully shit down and rebooted, it will offer safe mode to disable components.

Does not seem to happen on earlier games like GoldenEye and Banjo Kazooie and the earlier games will run through their whole lengths and change tracks normally. Thank you for your work on this plugin, I just hope someday I'll be able to fully listen to those bugged soundtracks. :D

I found the common issue: It seems to play just fine with HLE audio. I'll just enable that by default from now on.

I can confirm that Banjo Tooie hangs at around 1:23.500 seconds, even with HLE enabled. A slightly easier way to test this is to convert it to MP3 which doesn't lock up the computer. My usflib has the same hash as TwilightOne's. I was running this in a VM on Windows XP myself. The result seems to be the identical with HLE enabled or disabled, at least to me.

2.2.39 was affected, as TwilightOne mentions, but it seems to be the same with 2.2.40 as well. I didn't test with Perfect Dark.

Well our rip comes from the 'official' repository for USFs. So I didn't know where to get the most up to date versions if not there. :/

If so, to your knowledge where are the latest ripped and tagged sets? Do they all work as intended on your end?

Thank you and have a nice day/evening. :D

Interesting, I had a quick look and you're correct. The rip you linked to works just fine. I'm not sure what the difference inside the files themselves.

    • Zophar and JoshW's websites both have the same rip with SHA1 = 4010a5e4371bc1a074b3059121e61bb2c6196f27
    • The file you linked to has SHA1 = 24c1c434df6322e1a4c7c5daa399b1746d304a79

Interestingly, they both have the same USFBY (Josh W.) and TAGGER (holyice7) properties. Maybe the working rip was processed/compressed differently since there seems to be less data in the .miniusf files themselves. There does seem to be a slight difference, the working rip has slightly longer tracks and the volume is slightly higher. It has better tagging too (actual track numbers) so you'd have to think this one is newer in any case. Wonder why this rip can't be found at the main archives...
